A Not so tranquil evening at Bessy :P
Intrigued? well before we begin, let me ask you, should you allow rain to play spoilsport to your plans, yes or no? I'd suggest the latter and guarantee that the experience would be a core memory. outrageous? Let me share my experience substantiating the same.
My sister and I had plans to go to the open air theatre experience which was to be held at Elliot's beach, Besant Nagar on September 3. The show was to begin at 5'o clock in the evening and as we were getting ready, we notice the sudden chill in the air and slightly cloudy sky. "Eh, it wont be that bad" we assumed, didn't take an umbrella (No prizes for guessing) and hailed a cab. We weren't allowed to take out bumblebee by ourselves(our family car which is mustard yellow with black highlights) as we were relatively inexperienced at driving.
It should not be to anyone's surprise that the sky in fact got more cloudy gradually and to our horror, started pouring cats and dogs as we approached the location. we decided to see it through. Our Cab driver, both literally and figuratively went out of his way to make sure that we bought an umbrella. Mr.Syed Basha, you have our gratitude. And so we stood in the outpour under a tree with our little umbrella, which did its duty admirably. The first spell of rain dwindled to a stop soon after. The open air theatre was cancelled though. Undeterred, we resolved to make the best out of the situation. We tried out the beach carnival games. Our helper was a cheeky little boy ,probably 10 years old. Cheeky because he
1.Kept saying "Vada poche" when either of us missed an item while throwing a rubber ring.(we managed to win four )
2. While retrieving an item , he told us it had a doll inside it and when we opened it, it was filled with sand?!. (cue- a cheeky grin from him)
3.When we said our "bye"s he replied "yes. I am a boy" (We didn't get to know his name though. I'm sure we will recognize each other next time)
Did I mention I almost won a giant stuffed panda? emphasis on "almost". We had a lovely time at the beach with the chill weather and it wasn't crowded as much due to the rain which still graced us in intermittent spells.
. Next we proceeded to the food stalls. We got prawn and squid fry , got Turkish mud coffee from a stall two stalls away and decided to have it together at the fish fry stall. This confused quite some customers as they asked for coffee at the fish stall and were redirected to the correct location.(our apologies).
Then to Cocofit, a charming little outlet specializing in coconut based dishes. The coco pudding and cheese fries were divine. By this time a sizeable crowd thronged the area, determined to make the best of this just like us both.
Finally we ended the foodie crawl with Kimchi tower, an indo-korean food spot which wasn't bad, but the joy of seeing the food presented in an unique way was dampened by the taste which wasn't up to the hype, then again taste is subjective.
Now began the true challenge of the day, the hassle of getting home on a wet day. Chaos ensued as expected. Mission accomplished successfully with the help of a Bus (Thank god for free tickets for women as I didn't have to rummage for change) and two auto rickshaws. By pure serendipity both of the auto drivers were anime buffs! which delighted my sister and I, fellow anime buffs. For those curious, one of them was watching naruto (English dub. Yes Im an unapologetic anime snob ) and the other was recommending one piece over the phone to someone.
This eclectic experience only made us more brave in seeing things through, even if those were mundane weekly outings, never to be cowed down by any challenge that rears its ugly head. So yes, I'd recommend you to indeed brave the rain. what's the worst thing that could happen??
